Five things that move the price
- Lesson length. In summer heat an hour in the shade often beats ninety minutes on hot pavement.
- The meeting place: a park, a condo courtyard, your driveway or the trainer's space.
- Whether you pay lesson by lesson or buy a set at a discount.
- The homework that comes with it, from a written plan to a quick answer between visits.
- Drive time between the trainer and your front door.

Good questions
Before you begin.
Who benefits most from private lessons?
Dogs that get wound up around people or other dogs, and owners who want a problem solved in their own routine, such as the walk past a neighbor's gate.
Does everything happen outside?
No. Many skills begin indoors, where distractions are low, and move outside later. In summer, outdoor practice works best at dawn or after sunset.
What do I bring?
A short list of goals, treats your dog loves, a flat collar or harness and a regular leash. A retractable leash makes teaching harder.
